Listening

IELTS listening test is the examination of an individual hearing quality that how clearly he grasp concepts. In this test an individual listen to four recordings which are different from each other. All the recordings have different context and goals. The test taker has to listen to those recordings and note the answers on the question sheet. The answers will be converted to answer sheet in the last 10 minutes.

Recordings format

The recordings will be different from each other having different tone, accent, context and speakers.

Recording 01: A social and everyday conversation between two individuals. e.g. a hotel owner and client discussing rooms for booking.
Recording 02: It is based on a speech or talking of single individual in which he will address a specific topic and will go to its details. e.g. a speech of public representative on his plans for the city infrastructure.
Recording 03: This is one of the complex part which includes up to four individuals who will be discussing an educational, working or training context. e.g. A boss and employer exchanging arguments on a specific project in which they are facing difficulties.
Recording 04: In this part a single individual will talk about an academic subject. e.g. a class presentation in which a student is explaining the harmful effects of global warming.

Type of Tasks

Multiple Choice

Multiple choice is used to test the variety of skills so the test taker should be active and used his best knowledge. In this task test taker will given options which will be almost similar and he has to pick the right one. besides that, the text taker can be asked to complete sentences. A type of question can also be asked in which 5 to 6 options are present and more than one will be possible true answers. in this case the test taker should read the question with full concentration.

Matching

By the name matching an individual can understand what he is going to do, but this is not that simple it requires proactive skills. In this task informative and English listening skills are deeply monitored. the answers in this type of task is not exactly the same as the speaker says instead it can be synonyms etc. This task tests the differentiative skills of the test taker that in the discussion how the individuals are exchanging arguments on everyday life.

Plan, Map and Diagram

This is a tricky but easy and enjoyable task. The test taker will be given options regarding map, plan or diagram in the question paper. Map, plan or diagram will be explained in the recording and every single concept will be delivered to the test taker. Now its the responsibility of the test taker to understand that information and use his knowledge to select correct answers from the list. for example, a map of house will be explained and then a question can be asked that where was kitchen located, was it in between room 1 and room 2 or room 2 and room 3. This task tests the constructive ability of test taker mind that how quickly it built a true map in his mind.

Form and Summary completion

It is a type of fill in the blanks type task in which the test taker has to induct the missing words in the text from recording. In this type of task, the test taker should read the question carefully because it explains that how many words should be written in the blank spots. It can be one, two or more than two. The test taker maybe given list of answers if not the they will have to listen carefully to the recordings and identify the exact words which can be put in the blanks.

Sentence Completion

A set of sentences will be provided to test taker which will be read by him. the recordings will consist of all the valuable information regarding the sentences. In this task the test taker will have to kept in mind the number of words just like the other task which will be explained in the question. The answer will be marked incorrect if the number of words are not exactly the same as told in question. This task tests the identification ability of an individual and it is necessary the test taker focus on facts, causes and events in the recording.

Short answer questions

In this task the test taker has to listen to the recording carefully and then answer the questions which are asked about the specific recording. word count can also be important in this task and that should be kept in mind. the questions can vary and can be based on different things like prices, places, facts, figures and plans in the recording.
